AceShowbiz - On May 12, during the second day of the penalty phase in the trial for the murder of rapper Foolio, one of the convicted killers, Sean Gathright, publicly expressed his remorse to the late artist’s family. Gathright, among four men found guilty on May 8 for the ambush killing, took the witness stand and delivered an emotional apology for his involvement in the crime.
Speaking with evident emotion, Gathright said, "I want to say my deepest condolences. I understand that it's hard losing a child, a best friend, a brother, a cousin. For that, I just cannot say sorry enough." He further acknowledged that he will likely spend the rest of his life imprisoned but pledged to use his time to better himself.
In a victim impact statement read aloud by a victim advocate, Foolio’s mother, Sandrikas Mays, referred to her son by his birth name, Charles Jones, emphasizing that he was more than his public persona. She described him as a person with a heart, dreams, flaws, and deep connections with loved ones, highlighting that he was a brother, friend, and artist with much life still ahead.
"Charles was more than what people saw online or heard in his music," she wrote. "I ask the court to remember that Charles was a person whose life mattered. He was loved deeply and his absence has devastated our family."
The four convicted men, including Sean Gathright, Isaiah Chance, Davion Murphy, and Rashad Murphy, now face the possibility of either life imprisonment or the death penalty as sentencing proceedings continue.
Separately, the sentencing of Alicia Andrews, who was convicted of manslaughter in connection with Foolio’s murder last October, has been postponed. Her legal team is pursuing a new trial, delaying her upcoming sentencing.
This case remains under close watch as the court deliberates the appropriate consequences for all involved in the tragic killing of Foolio. The rapper’s family and supporters continue to seek justice while mourning the loss of a young life with unfulfilled potential.
