AceShowbiz - Daz Dillinger, the producer affiliated with Death Row Records, has initiated legal action against the estate of Tupac Shakur, claiming it owes him royalties for multiple songs he co-wrote and produced. This lawsuit centers on payments for over a dozen tracks, including several from the iconic rapper’s final album released during his lifetime, All Eyez on Me.
The complaint, filed on May 8 and obtained by Billboard, specifically lists five tracks from All Eyez on Me as subjects of the dispute. These songs include "Ambitionz az a Ridah," "Skandalouz," "Got My Mind Made Up," "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted," and "I Ain’t Mad at Cha." According to the filing, Dillinger alleges that despite requests made in 2024 for royalty payments, the estate has failed to provide adequate accounting or statements to support the sums paid.
Daz Dillinger reportedly received $91,000 from Amaru Entertainment, the company managing Tupac’s music rights, but was not given any detailed royalty statements to verify this amount. His legal representation has emphasized that the estate has neglected to issue proper royalty statements and payments within the required timeframes, an issue that persists up to the present.
In a statement to Billboard, Dillinger’s lawyer, Bret Lewis, asserted, "At a minimum, Amaru has failed to render statements and/or pay sums due within the applicable limitations periods and continuing to the present." Lewis further indicated that the exact amount owed will be determined after a full accounting and discovery process unfolds during the lawsuit.
Attempts to obtain comments from Dillinger’s legal team for Rolling Stone were declined. The case highlights ongoing disputes involving royalties and rights management connected to Tupac Shakur’s enduring musical legacy.
