AceShowbiz - The British pop sensation Olivia Dean is dominating the ARIA Singles Chart once again as her hit Man I Need reclaims the No. 1 spot for a remarkable 21st non-consecutive week.
Olivia Dean effectively replaced herself at the top of the chart, with Man I Need climbing from No. 2 to No. 1, overtaking Rein Me In, her duet with Sam Fender, which slipped down to No. 2. This impressive feat highlights Dean’s continued stronghold over the Australian music scene.
Between Man I Need and Rein Me In, these two tracks have collectively ruled the ARIA Singles Chart for 24 of the last 25 weeks, only briefly interrupted by Olivia Rodrigo’s Drop Dead, which held No. 1 for a single week before dropping to No. 7.
Man I Need now stands as the second-longest reigning No. 1 in the history of the ARIA Chart, trailing only behind Tones And I’s Dance Monkey, which dominated for 24 non-consecutive weeks in 2019 and 2020. This record appears increasingly vulnerable as Olivia Dean continues her track’s impressive run.
The most recent ARIA Top 50 Singles Chart, released on Friday, May 8, showed no new entries in the singles category, underscoring the ongoing dominance of current hits. However, the albums chart was notably active, featuring seven new releases.
Leading the new album entries is Melanie C with Sweat, which debuted at No. 5. This marks Mel C’s ninth studio album and her first to enter the ARIA top 10, outperforming her 1999 debut solo album Northern Star, which peaked at No. 32. As a former member of the Spice Girls, Mel C holds the record as the group’s most successful solo artist on the ARIA charts. Her fellow Spice Girl, Geri Halliwell, reached No. 22 with her 1999 album Schizophonic.
Another new top 10 entry is from the Irish hip-hop band Kneecap with their album Fenian, which debuted at No. 7. This marks the first time the band has appeared on the ARIA charts.
The latest ARIA Top 50 albums chart also features new arrivals from several artists, including American country star Kacey Musgraves with Middle Of Nowhere at No. 17, Australian country artist Rachael Fahim’s Who You Are at No. 22, South Australian hip-hop artist trials with Hendle at No. 24, Australian Idol’s Harlan Goode’s The Idol Collection at No. 42, and the soundtrack for The Devil Wears Prada 2 at No. 50.
At the top of the albums chart is Noah Kahan’s The Great Divide, which retains the No. 1 position for the second consecutive week, further solidifying his presence in the Australian market.
These chart updates highlight a vibrant and competitive music scene, with Olivia Dean continuing to lead the singles chart while fresh talent and established artists alike make significant impacts on the albums chart.
