AceShowbiz - The cause of death for Nicholas Brendon, known for his role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has been officially disclosed following his passing on March 20 at age 54.
The Putnam County Coroner's office confirmed on Wednesday that Brendon died from atherosclerotic and hypertensive cardiovascular disease. Acute pneumonia and a previous myocardial infarction were also listed as contributing factors. The death was ruled natural, according to People.
Coroner Todd Zeiner detailed that the primary cause was a 90 percent blockage in Brendon's right coronary artery. On the day of his death, a friend named Theresa called 911 after noticing Brendon had been suffering from a persistent cough and chest pain. She advised him to seek hospital care, but he declined, reportedly due to his apprehension following recent back surgery. Theresa also mentioned Brendon had experienced a heart attack several years earlier but refused further treatment at that time.
The autopsy revealed a markedly enlarged heart and severe narrowing of the right coronary artery. Moderate stenosis was also found in the left anterior descending and left circumflex arteries. Additionally, acute pneumonia and inflammation of the small bowel were present. Zeiner noted that recent videos showed Brendon coughing heavily and speaking with a raspy voice, indicating a decline in his health prior to his death.
This detailed medical report sheds light on the underlying health issues that led to the untimely passing of Nicholas Brendon, providing clarity on the circumstances surrounding his death.
