AceShowbiz - The upcoming reunion tour of Rush is scheduled to begin next month, marking a significant return for the legendary rock band. This decision comes after years of hesitation from band members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, who initially opposed revisiting the past without their late bandmate Neil Peart, who passed away in 2020 due to brain cancer.
Geddy Lee explained to the New York Times that the reunion feels like unfinished business and a heartfelt tribute to Peart. “We owed him a proper thank you and a celebration,” Lee said, emphasizing that the tour is meant to honor the music they created together over nearly five decades. He stressed that the reunion is intended as a celebration rather than a somber, mournful event.
However, it was an unexpected influence that helped change their minds: a meeting with rock icon Paul McCartney. The encounter took place during a tribute concert for Taylor Hawkins in 2022, where Lifeson described McCartney as a “Tom Sawyer-type figure” who encouraged the band to overcome their pride and embrace touring again.
Lifeson recalled the moment, saying, “Never argue with a Beatle.” Meanwhile, Lee shared with Rolling Stone how McCartney joined them for drinks and urged them to get back on the road. “He was lecturing Alex about how great it is to tour. ‘You have to do it, man. You have to get back out there, man,’” Lee recounted.
With the encouragement of McCartney, Rush is preparing to celebrate their legacy and honor their late bandmate with a reunion tour that fans have long anticipated. The tour promises to be a heartfelt tribute and a celebration of the music that defined a generation.
