AceShowbiz - Harry Styles now holds the record for the two largest vinyl sales weeks by a male artist in the modern era of U.S. music tracking, thanks to his latest release Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally.
The album sold an impressive 186,000 vinyl copies in the U.S. during the week ending March 12, surpassing the previous record of 182,000 vinyl units sold during the debut week of Harry's House in 2022. These sales weeks rank as the seventh and eighth biggest vinyl sales weeks for an album in the modern era, a period defined as starting in 1991 when Luminate began electronically monitoring music consumption.
Harry Styles' new album’s strong sales were driven in part by its release across seven different vinyl variants, including a deluxe boxed set featuring an LP and exclusive branded merchandise. Alongside vinyl success, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally. debuted at No. 1 on the Vinyl Albums chart, Top Album Sales, and the overall Billboard 200 charts for the week dated March 21.
While Styles holds the top male artist vinyl sales weeks, Taylor Swift dominates the overall chart, claiming the rest of the top 10 biggest vinyl sales weeks in the modern era. She leads the pack with her staggering 1.334 million vinyl copies sold in the debut week of The Life of a Showgirl, solidifying her as the queen of vinyl sales.
Among the top 20 vinyl sales weeks for albums in the modern era, most represent first-week sales or the first week a vinyl edition became available. Exceptions include instances like Swift’s THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT, which experienced a surge in vinyl sales months after its initial release due to the launch of a deluxe vinyl edition.
Other notable mentions in recent vinyl sales include Travis Scott’s UTOPIA, which sold 89,000 vinyl copies during its fourth week of availability as of September 2, 2023.
