AceShowbiz - Nas made history by casting the first dice at the grand opening of Resorts World New York City, marking the debut of the city’s first casino with live table games.
The event took place at the South Ozone Park location, a significant $5 billion expansion of the existing Aqueduct Race Track. This new casino floor boasts over 240 table games, including blackjack, craps, baccarat, and roulette, offering New Yorkers a gaming experience never before available in their own city.
According to CBS News, the facility has already doubled its workforce and anticipates adding hundreds of jobs during the next three years, signaling a major boost to the local economy.
This opening represents only the initial phase of a larger development plan. Resorts World intends to build a 7,000-seat entertainment venue, a hotel expansion, an indoor day club with pools, and a full-service spa in the near future.
Additionally, the project includes a $2 million contribution towards the completion of The Hip Hop Museum in the Bronx, scheduled to open later this year, underscoring a cultural investment tied to the casino’s launch.
Alongside Resorts World, two other casinos were approved: Steve Cohen’s Metropolitan Park in Queens and Bally’s Bronx, both projected to open by 2030.
The entire $5.5 billion development will eventually feature 2,000 hotel rooms, 6,000 slot machines, and 800 gaming tables, creating a vast entertainment and hospitality complex.
The launch of Resorts World marks the end of New York City’s 400-year period without a commercial casino, and Nas ensured his place in history by leading the inaugural dice roll at this landmark venue.
