AceShowbiz - Pedro Pascal was visibly moved during the Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu panel held at CCXP Mexico in Mexico City. The event took place on Sunday ahead of the upcoming Disney film release on May 22, which marks a new milestone for the Star Wars franchise.
Joining Pascal were director Jon Favreau, as well as co-stars Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White, who all participated in the discussion about the feature film that continues the story from the popular streaming series The Mandalorian. The movie is notable as the first theatrical Star Wars release since 2019.
During the panel, Pascal wore a Mexico men's World Cup 2026 soccer jersey, symbolizing his connection to the country hosting the event. He shared how meaningful it was for him to see the character he originated on Disney+’s The Mandalorian transition to the big screen. The series debuted in 2019 and introduced audiences to the titular Mandalorian bounty hunter and his young companion Grogu.
“As soon as I saw this, I knew that it would be a new authorship of a streaming experience,” Pascal reflected on the show’s evolution. “But I always had a dream in my heart that it would be on a big screen because that’s how I was developed as a child. I went to the movie theater so much with my family, and I saw the Star Wars movies on the big screen.”
After expressing these thoughts, Pascal spoke briefly in Spanish, which led to an emotional pause during which he brushed away tears. The crowd responded with enthusiastic cheers and applause, showing their support and admiration. He then blew a kiss to the audience before continuing the conversation in Spanish, further connecting with the fans present.
For Jon Favreau, the film represents an opportunity to expand the series’ narrative while welcoming new viewers. The story focuses on Din Djarin (played by Pascal) and Grogu, also known as Baby Yoda, as they strive to protect the New Republic.
The film is produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Ian Bryce, and Dave Filoni, with a screenplay penned by Favreau, Filoni, and Noah Kloor. Favreau emphasized the importance of evolving the characters’ relationship, stating, “It’s no longer about the Mandalorian rescuing Grogu. Now Grogu has leveled up. He’s a Mandalorian apprentice. He’s studying under Luke Skywalker. He’s coming into his own, and now he’s discovering and unleashing his abilities.”
The panel concluded with a special appearance by Grogu himself, delighting fans, followed by an exclusive screening of the movie’s opening scenes, offering a first look at what audiences can expect when the film premieres.
With anticipation building, the event highlighted the emotional connection Pascal feels toward the project and the significance of bringing it into theaters for a wider audience to experience.
