AceShowbiz - The Bay Area rapper Saweetie is set to showcase her talents at the inaugural event of the International Dance League (IDL) in New York City on May 2. Although she will not be competing, Saweetie will take the stage as a featured performer during this groundbreaking dance competition.
The event will be held at the Hammerstein Ballroom, with tickets priced between $44.99 and $64.99 plus applicable taxes and fees, available for purchase on the IDL website. This competition will bring together six elite dance teams from around the world, each representing distinct styles and regions, all vying for the championship title.
"Movement is alchemy. You take something you feel, something you can't even name, and you turn it into something people can see and feel across the world," Saweetie said in a statement. "That's what these dancers do. That's what I try to do with music. IDL is putting both of those things on the same stage and I'm here for it."
The six teams participating in the New York City event hail from diverse locations: Brotherhood from Vancouver, Quick Style from Oslo, Jam Republic from Singapore, GRV from Los Angeles, Royal Family from Auckland, and 1Million from Seoul. This international lineup highlights the league’s commitment to blending culture, competition, and community.
Connor Lim, cofounder and CEO of the IDL, emphasized the connection between the dancers and Saweetie's music. "Dancers have been choreographing to Saweetie's music for years. There's a reason for that, the music moves," he said. He explained that having Saweetie perform at halftime during the first event in New York felt like a perfect fit, as the music and the moment align seamlessly.
Following the kickoff in New York City, the IDL will continue its season with events scheduled in Vancouver, B.C. on May 23, Sydney on June 20, Seoul on August 1, and Los Angeles on September 20, expanding its global footprint.
On the music front, Saweetie has yet to release a new single in 2026. Her latest project remains the Hella Pressure EP, which dropped in August of the previous year. Fans eagerly await her next musical move as she prepares to perform on this high-profile dance stage.
