AceShowbiz - Offset, the rapper and member of the hip-hop trio Migos, was ambushed by a large group of individuals who tried to steal his watch before he was shot in the leg, according to an FBI update on the ongoing investigation.
The incident occurred on Monday, April 6, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, just north of Miami. The musician, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg but was reported to be in stable condition shortly after the attack. Authorities confirmed that the injuries were not life-threatening.
During the assault, a single shot was fired into Offset's leg as the group attempted to forcibly remove his watch. The FBI described the attackers as a "large group" who ambushed the rapper in the valet area outside the venue.
Offset was hospitalized for a few days following the shooting but made a quick recovery. He returned to the stage on Saturday, April 11, making an appearance at the Coachella music festival, much to the relief of his fans and supporters.
The suspects fled the crime scene in two Chevrolet SUVs, which split up and drove in different directions. One vehicle, a black Suburban, headed toward Hollywood, Florida, while the other, a Chevrolet Tahoe, traveled southbound toward Miami.
Following the shooting, law enforcement detained two individuals. Among those taken into custody was rapper Lil Tjay, whose real name is Tione Jayden Merritt. The Seminole Police Department stated that Lil Tjay was arrested in connection with an altercation that occurred prior to the shooting incident.
He faced charges of disorderly conduct and operating a vehicle without a valid license. However, his attorney, Dawn M. Florio, clarified to The Associated Press that Lil Tjay was not in possession of a firearm and was not charged with any gun-related offenses. He was released soon after posting bond.
In a public statement following the event, Offset expressed gratitude to his fans and reassured them about his condition. He said, "Thank you to everyone who's checked in on me and showed me love! I'm good....but I'm planning to be better! I'm focused on my family, my recovery, and getting back to the music... Realising that life is made up of quiet wins and loud losses... Life's a gamble, and I'm still playing to win."
Offset was discharged from the hospital on Friday, April 10, mere hours before his triumphant return to the stage. A spokesperson for the artist praised the medical team, stating, "Offset has been released from the hospital, and he is up and walking. We're incredibly grateful to the doctors, nurses, and the entire hospital staff who took such great care of him."
Authorities from Seminole County Police confirmed their awareness of the incident, stating, "We are aware of an incident that occurred at a valet area after 7pm Monday outside of Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood that resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to an individual who was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood."
