AceShowbiz - Teddi Mellencamp has revealed new details about her personal life amid her ongoing battle with stage 4 cancer. The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star recently shared that she has started dating an older man while navigating her health challenges.
During the April 8 episode of her podcast Two Ts in a Pod, co-hosted with Tamra Judge, Mellencamp teased fans by referring to her new partner as "Derek." She disclosed that he is older than she is but chose to keep his identity private. The 44-year-old reality star, who is a mother to Slate, 12, Cruz, 11, and Dove, 6, from her previous marriage to Edwin Arroyave, acknowledged that dating while managing family dynamics can be complex.
"We're both parents," she said, explaining the challenges they face. "I have kids in my house. He has kids in his house. That's the thing when you're dating and you're both parents. How are you ever supposed to get past first base?"
Despite these complications, Mellencamp emphasized that she is proceeding cautiously and has not yet discussed the more intimate aspects of their relationship. "I'm taking it slow with him. Normally that hasn't been my past," she admitted.
Regarding how her new boyfriend has responded to her health situation, Mellencamp shared that he has been supportive and understanding. Diagnosed with tumors in her brain and lungs over a year ago, she is currently undergoing immunotherapy treatments. "[He’s] pretty good about it," she said. "He's a relatively positive and logical person in general."
What Mellencamp values most about her partner is his ability to make her laugh, even during difficult times. She recounted a recent evening out that included a dinner at Craig's in West Hollywood followed by drinks at a speakeasy. Although she initially felt energetic, she realized afterward that the night had taken a toll on her.
"I was like, 'I actually have enough energy right now,'" she recalled saying to her date. "Then I woke up this morning and I felt like hell."
While Mellencamp continues to explore new beginnings in her love life, her medical condition is showing signs of improvement. In October, she shared hopeful news that scans following brain surgery and treatments revealed "no detectable cancer." Initially given a 50/50 survival chance, this development marks a significant milestone in her fight against cancer.
