AceShowbiz - Hulu has decided not to move forward with the comedy pilot Group Chat, which starred and was executive produced by La La Anthony. The series was written and executive produced by Kenya Barris with Kim Kardashian also serving as an executive producer.
The project marked a reunion of longtime friends Kim Kardashian and La La Anthony, who had teamed up with writer and executive producer Tracy Oliver. In this untitled half-hour comedy, La La Anthony was expected to star as a top Bay Area crisis manager for professional athletes. The storyline centered on her character’s life unraveling due to a scandal involving her husband, prompting her to lean on three close female friends.
The studio behind the project was 20th Television, where Kim Kardashian maintains a first-look deal. Group Chat drew loose inspiration from La La Anthony’s bestselling book, The Love Playbook: Rules for Love, Sex, and Happiness. The original pilot featured a cast including La La Anthony, Yaya DaCosta, Melanie Liburd, Rebecca Rittenhouse, and Stephanie Suganami.
Tracy Oliver has an impressive writing and producing résumé, including the films Little, The Sun Is Also a Star, and The Blackening. She also created the TV series First Wives Club and Harlem.
La La Anthony is known for her role on Starz’s Power, her series regular role on BMF, and recurring work on The Chi. Her literary works also include The Power Playbook following her 2014 release The Love Playbook.
Kim Kardashian recently completed work on the Netflix comedy film The Fifth Wheel, which she both produced and starred in. She also stars in and executive produces the Hulu legal drama series All's Fair. Beyond this, she executive produces the family’s Hulu reality series The Kardashians.
