AceShowbiz - The acclaimed musician Sturgill Simpson, also known as Johnny Blue Skies, is gearing up for a major fall tour with his band, the Dark Clouds. This upcoming run will support their latest album, Mutiny After Midnight, and promises to be an extensive journey for fans across the country.
The 29-date "Mutiny for the Masses Tour" is set to launch on September 4 at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, and will conclude on October 30 at the Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky. Tickets will officially go on sale on Friday, April 10, beginning at 10 a.m. local time. However, presales will start earlier, on April 8, also at 10 a.m. local time. In an effort to prevent ticket scalping and ensure fair access, Sturgill Simpson will utilize Ticketmaster's Face Value Exchange and AXS Resale platforms, allowing fans to resell tickets at their original price.
This tour marks the first full-scale outing since Sturgill Simpson's widely praised 2024 trek supporting his album Passage du Desir, the first released under the Johnny Blue Skies persona. That previous tour helped cement Johnny Blue Skies and the Dark Clouds as one of the most captivating live acts currently performing. Fans can expect marathon performances once again, as no opening acts are scheduled, giving the band ample time to deliver lengthy sets.
Mutiny After Midnight was released on March 13, exclusively in physical formats including CD, vinyl, and cassette. Prior to its official release, the album was available for streaming on YouTube for a limited week-long period. As of April 1, the album is also available as a digital download on iTunes, although it has not yet been added to streaming services.
In a public statement, Sturgill Simpson expressed his intention to eventually make the album available on streaming platforms. He explained the physical-only release approach as a way to "support and show solidarity with independent record shops" and to foster a more tangible connection between music and fans—a connection he feels is increasingly rare in the digital age. This strategy also helped Mutiny After Midnight reach Number Three on the Billboard 200 albums chart, matching the peak of his breakthrough 2016 album, A Sailor's Guide to Earth.
