The night’s standout moment was the surprise appearance of Emmy, Oscar, and Tony Award-winning icon Liza Minnelli. She dazzled the audience in a sparkling dance outfit and reflected on her impactful legacy, with narration by RuPaul. Michael Feinstein presented Minnelli with the inaugural Liza Minnelli Storyteller Award, recognizing her forthcoming memoir, Kids, Wait Till You Hear This, which has already captured attention thanks to excerpts shared by Lady Gaga.
Emmy-winning actor, producer, writer, and showrunner Quinta Brunson, known for Abbott Elementary, received the prestigious Vanguard Award from Scott Evans. Additionally, the comedy duo behind Las Culturistas, Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, were honored with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, introduced by Grammy-nominated pop sensation Demi Lovato.
Demi Lovato also opened the evening with a sultry performance of "Kiss," a hit from their Billboard 200 top 10 album It's Not That Deep, which reached No. 9 on the charts. Rising pop star Eli added to the musical lineup with her latest single, "Glitter."
Women dominated the music categories, with Puerto Rican rapper and singer Young Miko winning outstanding music artist, and KATSEYE earning the award for outstanding breakthrough music artist. The TV series Heated Rivalry, which was humorously parodied by Jonathan Bennett during the ceremony, took home the award for outstanding new TV series. Director Jacob Tierney accepted the award alongside cast members Connor Storrie, François Arnaud, and Robbie G.K.
