AceShowbiz - Lucasfilm has officially unveiled the trailer and poster for the upcoming animated series Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord, centered on the infamous Sith Lord Darth Maul. This new addition to the Star Wars universe will premiere on Disney+ starting April 6, launching with two episodes. Following the debut, the series will release two episodes weekly, culminating with the final two episodes on May 4.
The series is set after the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and follows Darth Maul as he aims to reconstruct his criminal empire on a planet the Galactic Empire has yet to control. During his mission, Maul encounters a disillusioned young Jedi Padawan who might become the apprentice he needs to assist in his ongoing quest for vengeance.
The newly released trailer offers a glimpse into what lies ahead for the fan-favorite villain after his escape from the Empire’s purge during Order 66. It highlights Maul’s strategic efforts to retaliate against the Empire and recruit a Jedi Padawan to join his cause. The preview features intense action sequences and promises exciting lightsaber battles that will thrill Star Wars enthusiasts.
Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord is created by Dave Filoni, based on characters originally developed by George Lucas. The voice cast includes Sam Witwer, who reprises his role as Darth Maul, a character he has voiced in previous series like The Clone Wars and Rebels. Additional voice talent includes Wagner Moura, Gideon Adlon as Devon Izara, Richard Ayoade as Two-Boots, Dennis Haysbert as Master Eeko-Dio-Daki, and several others who bring the new characters to life.
The executive production team features Dave Filoni, Athena Yvette Portillo, Matt Michnovetz, Brad Rau, Carrie Beck, Josh Rimes, and Alex Spotswood, with Brad Rau serving as supervising director. According to Witwer, the series will explore fresh facets of Maul’s personality, revealing traits audiences have not seen before but that align with the character’s history and experiences.
Originally portrayed by Ray Park and voiced by Peter Serafinowicz in the 1999 film The Phantom Menace, Darth Maul has remained a compelling figure in the Star Wars saga. This new series promises to deepen the understanding of Maul’s character while delivering an action-packed narrative for fans eagerly awaiting his return.
