AceShowbiz - Connor Storrie demonstrated his impressive accent skills were no accident while promoting his upcoming hosting role on Saturday Night Live. On Wednesday, he engaged in a lively "accent duel" with the show's resident impressionist James Austin Johnson, known for his Donald Trump portrayal.
Storrie recently gained attention for his role as Russian hockey player Ilya in the HBO Max/Crave series "Heated Rivalry," where his authentic Russian accent drew praise. When Johnson heard about Storrie's hosting gig on the February 28 episode featuring musical guest Mumford & Sons, he challenged him to a playful showdown.
The promo shows Storrie telling fellow SNL cast members Ashley Padilla and Marcello Hernández that he can do "all kinds of accents." Johnson then appears in full cowboy attire, declaring the show "ain't big enough for the both of us," sparking a spirited face-off.
The duel quickly escalates as Storrie dons a Stetson hat, with Padilla excitedly calling it an "accent duel." The clip highlights a variety of accents, including German, Cajun, French, Shakespearean, and even voices inspired by Shrek and the Na'vi from "Avatar." Both actors wisely avoid attempting Jamaican accents, with Storrie noting, "Yeah, I don't think that's a good idea."
The full promo offers a fun glimpse into Storrie's versatility and sets the stage for his hosting debut on the all-new SNL airing Saturday, February 28 at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT on NBC and Peacock.
Storrie's hosting role comes on the heels of his breakout success in Heated Rivalry, a gay hockey romance that soared to the top of streaming charts and brought instant fame to him and co-star Hudson Williams.
Additionally, TheWrap recently revealed that Storrie will star in A24’s upcoming film Peaked, alongside Laura Dern and Emma Mackey. The project will also feature Molly Gordon, who will co-star, write, and direct.
