AceShowbiz - Yellowstone has grown into a franchise with multiple spinoffs, but several of these new series are currently experiencing production delays.
Since its debut in 2018, Yellowstone has captivated audiences with the story of the Dutton family. The success of the Paramount Network series inspired several prequels, including 1883 and 1923.
Among the announced spinoffs is 6666, which focuses on the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas. The show’s official synopsis highlights its Western roots: "Founded when Comanches still ruled West Texas, no ranch in America is more steeped in the history of the West than the 6666. Still operating as it did two centuries before, and encompassing an entire county, the 6666 is where the rule of law and the laws of nature merge in a place where the most dangerous thing one does is the next thing."
Despite the franchise’s growth, updates on some of these projects have been sparse. In November 2023, the Paramount Network revealed two additional Yellowstone spinoffs titled 1944 and The Dutton Ranch, but details about their storylines remain under wraps.
The Dutton Ranch is slated for a 2026 premiere and will center on the characters Beth and Rip, portrayed by Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser.
Creator Taylor Sheridan has addressed the complexities of managing multiple projects simultaneously. Speaking to Deadline in January 2022, he explained that Paramount’s trust allows him to spend extended time on episodes. He noted, "Because Paramount trusts me and gives me the time to go shoot 10 to 14 days for a television episode, we can treat it like a movie, and it looks like a movie." Sheridan also highlighted the freedom to coordinate elaborate production elements, such as helicopter shots.
The Yellowstone series concluded its run on the Paramount Network in December 2024 after five seasons.
In October 2025, news broke that Sheridan signed a new overall deal with NBCUniversal, which will commence in 2029 after his current TV deal with Paramount expires in 2028. This arrangement covers film, TV, and streaming projects. Despite this move, Paramount retains rights to Yellowstone and its related franchises.
As the franchise expands, fans remain eager for updates on the delayed spinoffs. For now, production delays and corporate changes have slowed the rollout of new Yellowstone content.
