AceShowbiz - HBO has unveiled the first trailer for Lanterns, its highly anticipated new series from DC Studios featuring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre as the iconic Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The preview confirms the show’s premiere is set for August on HBO.

The trailer immediately establishes a strained relationship between the two leads. It begins with Hal Jordan dramatically leaping from a moving car while John Stewart is left to fend for himself by flying off a cliff. Using his quick thinking and Green Lantern powers, John manages to survive the perilous situation. He confronts Hal, saying, "I could have died." Hal responds firmly, "You wanted me to train you, I'm trainin' you."

The storyline centers on the pair investigating a mysterious murder in a small Nebraskan town. Their uneasy alliance extends to clashes with local law enforcement, highlighting the tension between the seasoned Lantern and the recruit. The trailer also offers glimpses of Hal flying, the signature Green Lantern costume, the Power Ring, and an alien character that appears to be a squirrel—likely a nod to the DC character Ch'p.

Based on the celebrated DC comic characters, Lanterns follows rookie John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and veteran Lantern Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) as they become embroiled in a dark Earth-bound mystery while serving as intergalactic peacekeepers. The series promises a blend of superhero action and detective intrigue set in the American heartland.

The ensemble cast includes Kelly MacDonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Ulrich Thomsen, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Sherman Augustus, J. Alphonse Nicholson, Jason Ritter, Nathan Fillion, Chris Coy, and Paul Ben-Victor.

Produced by HBO in partnership with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios, the pilot episode was co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, who also serve as co-creators.
