AceShowbiz - John Fogerty is poised to receive the prestigious Johnny Mercer Award at the upcoming Songwriters Hall of Fame (SHOF) Induction and Awards Gala, scheduled for June 11, 2026, at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.
The Johnny Mercer Award is a significant accolade given to a songwriter or songwriting team who has already been inducted into the SHOF, recognizing a body of work that exemplifies the high standards set by the legendary lyricist, Johnny Mercer, known for classics like Moon River and The Days of Wine and Roses. Fogerty was honored with his SHOF induction in 2005.
This year’s gala will also celebrate other distinguished musicians, including Alanis Morissette, Taylor Swift, and Kenny Loggins, who are also among the 2026 inductees.
John Fogerty is no stranger to accolades, having been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 as a member of Creedence Clearwater Revival. This recognition makes him the twelfth artist in history to be both a performer in the Rock Hall and a recipient of the Mercer Award, joining the ranks of iconic musicians such as Paul Simon, Billy Joel, and Elton John.
As the principal songwriter, vocalist, lead guitarist, arranger, and producer for Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fogerty has crafted timeless hits like Proud Mary and Born on the Bayou. Notably, three of his songs—Fortunate Son, Bad Moon Rising, and Have You Ever Seen the Rain—have each garnered over one billion streams. Following the success of Proud Mary, Ike & Tina Turner delivered a transformative version that soared to No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a Grammy.
Fogerty’s remarkable career includes topping the Billboard 200 with two CCR albums, Green River in 1969 and Cosmo's Factory in 1970, as well as his 1985 solo work Centerfield. The title track of this album is notably the only song to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Throughout his career, CCR achieved nine top 10 hits on the Hot 100, including five that reached No. 2, establishing a record for the most No. 2 hits without ever achieving a No. 1.
As a solo artist, John Fogerty also enjoyed success with the top 10 hit The Old Man Down the Road. His accolades include a Grammy win in 1998 for Best Rock Album for Blue Moon Swamp.
