While getting her hair and makeup done, Tyla expressed her enthusiasm for the evening's performances, particularly highlighting Justin Bieber. She also reflected on her nomination for Best African Music Performance for “Push 2 Start,” noting that she recognized the song's uniqueness as soon as she completed it. She humorously mentioned her eagerness to discover the outcome of her category, regardless of winning or losing.

To her delight, Tyla did indeed win her second Grammy, but she reminisced about her first win in 2024 for her breakout track “Water.” “I was surprisingly very calm, and when they called my name, I just felt like I blacked out almost,” she recalled. “All of a sudden I was onstage and I said the first thing that came to my head. That moment was so special.”

Along with her Grammy victory, Tyla announced that her highly awaited second album, titled A-Pop, is on the horizon. She teased details about the record, saying, “I feel like the first album, it was very hectic, it was a rush. It was like, all of a sudden, overnight craziness. So now that I’m settled in, I feel like I know more about my direction and what I want to do, what I want to say.”

The creative process for her follow-up to the 2024 self-titled debut began last year. Initially uncertain about its sound, Tyla shared, “I just knew that as I lived through the making of the album, it was going to fall into place, which it did. I feel like I just did something really fresh and so Tyla.”
