AceShowbiz - Jeremy Renner, known for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, shared details of the accident that changed his life forever. On New Year's Day 2023, Renner got into a severe snow plough accident while clearing snow from outside his Lake Tahoe home with his nephew, Alex.
In an extract from his forthcoming memoir, published in The Times of London, Renner shared the chain of events that led to his near-fatal ordeal. He recounted how he was driving in the cab of his large snowcat when he saw his nephew in danger of being crushed by the vehicle.
In a crucial moment, Renner hurried to help but forgot an essential step in his haste. Despite the manual said, "before exiting the driver's cab! - Apply parking brake," he "didn't engage the parking brake, or disengage the steel tracks." This small yet life-altering mistake resulted in Renner losing his balance and being thrown out of control.
He vividly described the terrifying experience as "an innocent, critical, life-changing moment." Renner explains, "My feet lost their grip on the moving tracks, and I never made it to the cab. I lurched violently forward, out of control."
The situation turned dire as he was catapulted over the tracks and onto the hard-packed ice. "There came terrible crunching sounds as 14,000lb of galvanised steel machinery slowly, inexorably, monotonously, ground over my body," he recalled.
The accident left Renner with over 38 broken bones and a dire need for emergency medical care. He received life-saving treatment first at a hospital in nearby Reno and then at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, where his condition was stabilized. Despite the severity of his injuries, Renner's indomitable spirit fuelled his recovery.
By early January 2024, Renner returned to production on Season 3 of his show "Mayor of Kingstown". Furthermore, he recently wrapped filming for "Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery", the latest movie in the "Knives Out" saga.
