AceShowbiz - Amid backlash over her Blue Origin space flight, Katy Perry announced unfortunate news: the abrupt cancellation of two of her concerts. She was forced to pull the plug on her gigs scheduled for May 1 and 2 in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The cancellations stem from the fact that the Arena Guadalajara, the stadium meant to host the gigs, was not completed in time.
Addressing her followers on Instagram, Perry expressed her inability to resolve the situation, "Sadly, I learned that the construction of Arena Guadalajara will not be complete for their scheduled shows next week, which includes mine on May 1 and 2."
She further added, "Last week I sent my team to the Arena to make sure there wasn't anything we could do to make this happen but it was evident when they arrived that the venue was not ready or safe to receive my show or an audience. I wish I could fix this but it is beyond my control."
The Guadalajara concerts were part of her Lifetimes world tour, which includes stops in Mexico City and Monterrey, before launching her U.S. tour in Houston on May 7.
This setback follows closely on the heels of Perry's participation in an all-female Blue Origin mission to space, which has received significant public backlash. Including notable figures like Gayle King and Lauren Sanchez, Perry's space flight was initially celebrated as a pioneering journey for women in space.
However, the mission soon faced criticism for being a "tone deaf" and "embarrassing" publicity stunt, especially given the environmental concerns connected with space travel. In response, an inside source disclosed that Perry found the criticism "unexpected" and "disheartening."
Perry's dramatic gestures - such as holding a daisy up to the sky and kissing the ground - were ridiculed. Ahe said of the mission, "It's about a collective energy in there. It's about us. It's about making space for future women and taking up space and belonging."
Beyond public opinion, fellow celebrities like Emily Ratajkowski and Olivia Munn also criticized the mission, labeling it a frivolous publicity campaign for Jeff Bezos' space company.
Environmentalists have raised concerns as well, pointing out that the water vapor emissions from the rocket, which can deplete the ozone layer, could contribute to global warming.
These criticisms contrast sharply with Perry's longstanding advocacy for climate change, which she highlighted in her role as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
As Katy Perry prepares for the upcoming legs of her Lifetimes world tour, she faces the challenge of regaining public favor and navigating the complexities of her high-profile endeavors.
