John Lithgow speaks out as he's aware that not everyone is happy with his casting as Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming Max 'Harry Potter' series.

AceShowbiz - The highly anticipated "Harry Potter" series reboot has recently announced the casting of John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, a decision that has sparked considerable discussion among fans. The actor is taking over the role of the legendary headmaster previously portrayed by Richard Harris, Michael Gambon, and Jude Law.

Lithgow acknowledges the mixed reactions to his casting but is undeterred. In an interview with the BBC's "The One Show," he said, "It's an enormous thrill. But I know there were plenty of people appalled that an American should be hired to play the ultimate English wizard. But, I will do my best."

The actor is keenly aware of the legacy he is stepping into, noting, "I will be following the great Michael Gambon. I'm not an Englishman, although I've played one on TV. I remind everyone that I did play Winston Churchill on 'The Crown' and did just fine."

In a more relaxed discussion on the "SmartLess" podcast with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett, Lithgow described Dumbledore as "kind of this nuclear weapon. He only goes off very, very occasionally. And I don't think it's gonna be that hard a job."

Despite his confidence, Lithgow acknowledges "the logistics are scary," but "If this is indeed a seven or eight-year long job, it's a wonderful way to grow old as an actor."

Committed to immersing himself in the "Harry Potter" world, Lithgow admitted he is "halfway through the second of these seven novels."

The series producer Francesca Gardiner expressed her excitement about the casting lineup, "We are happy to announce the casting of John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, Nick Frost, Luke Thallon, and Paul Whitehouse to play Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, Hagrid, Quirrell, and Filch."

Set to stream exclusively on Max, the series is described as a "faithful adaptation" of J.K. Rowling's books and aims to explore every corner of the wizarding world through several seasons.

As young fans eagerly await this new take on the beloved series, they can look forward to seeing these iconic characters brought to new life by a cast of extraordinary talent.
