AceShowbiz - Katy Perry is counting down the moments to a groundbreaking adventure: a spaceflight aboard Blue Origin's NS-31 mission, set to launch on Monday morning, April 14. Hours before blasting off into the space, she offered a tour of the space ship.
Clad in full flight gear, she posted a video on Instagram, showing glimpses from inside the capsule and even sang a few lines, expressing her desire to sing in space. "I've gotta sing in space!" she exclaimed with enthusiasm.
Perry, who has dreamt of going to space for 15 years, will join an all-female crew for the company's 11th human spaceflight, making this journey the first all-women crewed mission to space since Valentina Tereshkova's solo flight in 1963.
The crew accompanying Perry includes an impressive lineup such as Jeff Bezos' journalist fiancee Lauren Sanchez, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize nominee Amanda Nguyen, producer and entrepreneur Kerianne Flynn, and "CBS Mornings" anchor Gayle King.
This diverse and inspiring team has been training at Blue Origin's West Texas facility, preparing for the 7 a.m. CT launch.
This mission holds a special emotional resonance for Perry. "When I was invited to come on this voyage, I looked up the capsule. On the very front of it is the outline in the shape of a feather - and when I saw that, it was a total confirmation because my mom has always called me Feather," she shared.
She also revealed that the capsule is named Tortoise, another nickname given to her by her mother. "There are no coincidences," Perry added, feeling grateful for these personal affirmations.
Perry's mission also carries a powerful message for young women. "I'm motivated more than ever to be an example for my daughter that women should take up space -literally and figuratively," she wrote on Instagram. She hopes to inspire the next generation by showing that there are no limitations to what they can achieve.
After a brief journey that includes four minutes of weightlessness before returning to Earth, Perry will embark on her Lifetimes Tour, starting April 23 in Mexico City. The spaceflight will be broadcast live on CBS, with special coverage beginning at 7 a.m. ET, and streamed on Paramount+.
