AceShowbiz - Katie Thurston shared a deeply personal and emotional update on her "Boobie Broadcast" channel amid her battle with stage 4 cancer. Diagnosed initially with stage 3 invasive ductal carcinoma in February, she found out her condition has progressed to stage 4 after the cancer spread to her liver.
"Today I had 'chemo class' - and I sobbed the second it started," Thurston openly admitted. "Not because of anything she said - idk if I heard much of anything she said for the next 25 min. Sometimes I think 'wtf is my life?' But whether I like it or not, this is my life and I have to make the best of it."
She underscores that the reality of living each day with the knowledge of approaching mortality is much harder than it sounds. "They say live like you're dying, but now that I am, it's easier said than done. And don't get me wrong, every day, we are all closer to death. Not in a morbid way but in the undeniable circle of life," Thurston reflected.
Despite the overwhelming news, Katie maintains a positive outlook, choosing to appreciate every day she has. Last week, she confirmed that her cancer had metastasized to her liver, which now classifies her condition as stage 4.
"It is fairly small, however, that does put me at stage four," she shared. Yet, she remains hopeful, noting her confidence in the medical team at Columbia University and the relatively small size and early detection of the cancer spots on her liver.
Katie's story is not just about the diagnosis but also about her emotional journey. From the initial shock and despair to a renewed sense of purpose and strength, she is determined to fight.
"Despair. Anger. Sadness. Denial. And then strength," she wrote candidly on Instagram. "Purposeful. Ready. I cried a lot. I tried to even make a video instead of this post and couldn't."
As she embarks on her new treatment plan, which includes chemotherapy starting April 4, Thurston continues to find ways to cherish her time and maintain a sense of normalcy.
In a poignant moment, she shared how her husband, Jeff Arcuri, lifted her spirits by encouraging her to go out for a dinner date. "And it was this entire reality check for myself to get off the couch and keep living and loving," she said.
Katie's candidness offers hope and solidarity to others going through similar struggles. By sharing her journey, she aims to support and inspire those facing their own battles. "The first step of acceptance of my reality was the hardest," she concluded. "I plan to fight this."
