AceShowbiz - Teddi Mellencamp, known for her role on "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," is facing one of the toughest battles of her life. At 43, Mellencamp's health has been significantly impacted as doctors recently discovered she has four more brain tumors following an emergency MRI.
With courage and grace, she declared to Us Weekly, "I'm fighting for my life, but also for my family's life and all the people I love."
Mellencamp, who shares three children with her estranged husband, Edwin Arroyave, has been open about the emotional toll her diagnosis and treatments have taken on her family life.
Their children, Slate, 12, Cruz, 10, and Dove, 5, along with Arroyave's 16-year-old daughter Isabella, have been a source of strength and motivation for her.
Despite her determination to stay positive, Mellencamp has chosen not to use her comforting catchphrase, "moms always come back," with them, not wanting to make promises she's unsure she can keep.
Among the realities of her treatment - such as declining energy levels and the side effects of radiation and immunotherapy - Mellencamp has maintained a humorous outlook.
Reflecting on her symptoms post-treatment, she laughed, "I thought I was going to feel like how I felt after my neck lift. My reaction is always a headache, and I found out that's good news because it means that the immunotherapy or the radiation is killing your cancer."
Mellencamp, who underwent surgery in February to remove four brain tumors, revealed that a month later doctors found five more tumors in her body including in her lung. Despite these setbacks, she has been "staying active" and doing things she loves to keep her spirits high.
"When I do too much laying [around], I get pretty sad," she lamented. "On the days I'm feeling low, I can get really emotional, and if I'm open with the people in my life, then I have an easier time resting. When I try to pretend I'm OK and resting, it's hard for me."
The reality star's estranged husband, Arroyave, has put their divorce on hold to support her during this time. Although they sleep in separate bedrooms, Mellencamp appreciates his kindness and involvement with the children, saying, "It's all the things that I loved about our marriage but without all the problems."
Mellencamp, who was diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma in October 2022, uses sarcasm as a coping mechanism, preferring to joke about her condition to stay positive.
She shared, "Everybody wants me to be super positive all the time. One of my coping mechanisms is being sarcastic. I'd rather joke about it and have the best possible outcome than be completely in denial and have my heart broken."
Despite the gravity of her situation, Teddi Mellencamp continues to embody strength and resilience, focusing on the love and support of her family and friends as she faces her health challenges head-on.
