AceShowbiz - Comedian Luenell is apologetic after finding herself at the center of an unexpected controversy following her appearance on comedian John Mulaney's new celebrity sit-down talk show, "Everybody's Live with John Mulaney."
During a blindfolded segment of the show, Luenell tickled fellow comedian Pete Davidson's leg, leading to discomfort and awkwardness that did not go unnoticed.
In an interview with People, Luenell, 66, acknowledged her actions, "I admit I was tickling Pete's leg during a segment of 'Everybody's Live with John Mulaney'; however, I did not mean to make Pete uncomfortable."
She continued by offering a sincere apology, "I sincerely apologize. It was all done in jest." She added, "I'm still willing to go out on a date with him if he so chooses. And I promise I won't touch him again unless he wants me to!"
A representative for Luenell reiterated that her behavior was intended to be playful and that she had "by no means" set out to make Davidson uncomfortable.
Nonetheless, a source present during the filming stated that the incident left the whole set feeling uncomfortable. "Pete played along in the moment because he didn't want to derail the live show," the source explained, describing the incident as "really inappropriate."
This sentiment was echoed by viewers, who quickly noticed the discomfort. The source observed a troubling pattern, "People believe they can treat Pete differently and view him as fair game for these 'jokes' because of their perception of him, but it was just wrong and shows an unfortunate double standard."
Apart from the tickling, the interview had already put Davidson in the spotlight with some probing questions about his past relationships, including his well-publicized romance with Kim Kardashian. Despite the palpable awkwardness, Davidson handled it with composed humor although he did squirm slightly when Luenell mentioned Kardashian.
As for the former relationship between Davidson and Kardashian, the two appear to be on amicable terms. "He has nothing but love and respect for Kim," an insider previously told Page Six. "They are on good terms. He hopes everyone can move on."
