AceShowbiz - Erykah Badu has joined a burgeoning movement against Tesla and its CEO, Elon Musk. "Just vandalized my own Tesla," Badu tweeted earlier this week. "Trying to stay on trend."
This dramatic action is part of a wider protest against the severe budget cuts to government agencies being pursued by Musk's DOGE team.
The trend of vandalism against Tesla has been gaining momentum, with acts ranging from setting Cybertrucks on fire to hurling Molotov cocktails at Tesla dealerships.
Offenders have also marked the electric vehicles with vulgar images and messages like "Hail Elon" and "Nazi car," seemingly referencing Musk's controversial salute at Donald Trump's inauguration.
This protest occurred while Testa stock plummeted and the company ordered the recall of thousands of its electric cars due to faulty adhesive.
Badu is not alone in her display of dissent. Sheryl Crow, another notable musician, publicly declared last month that she had sold her Tesla and donated the proceeds to NPR.
This move came as a protest against the impending drastic cuts to public radio and television, with NPR and PBS executives slated to testify on Capitol Hill later this month under the scrutiny of DOGE.
Green Day's frontman Billie Joe Armstrong also lambasted Musk during performances in January. While in South Africa, Armstrong altered the lyrics of "American Idiot" to strike out against the billionaire.
Similarly, Jack White took a jab at Musk during his No Name tour, criticizing the notion of an unelected billionaire influencing U.S. policy.
The sentiment of frustration and resistance isn't limited to musical artists. In a recent episode of Netflix's "Everybody's Live with John Mulaney", 1960s folk icon Joan Baez expressed her disillusionment with modern democracy's slide under billionaire influences.
She revealed her own experience with Tesla, admitting, "I hated that thing," before ultimately crashing it into an oak tree on her property and selling it for half of what she paid.
As more public figures come forward to voice their opposition, the movement against Musk and his ventures appears to be gaining strength.
