AceShowbiz - The entertainment industry mourns the loss of a beloved character actor who brought to life one of Nickelodeon's most memorable villains. J.P. Schwieterman passed away last month after a brief but brave battle with cancer.
Jan Patrick "J.P." Schwieterman left an indelible mark on fans and colleagues alike with his portrayal of the antagonist Kurt Bozwell in the cult classic "Good Burger." According to his obituary, the actor died on February 28 at Mercy Hospital in Washington, Mo. He was just 52 years old.
"It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my brother, Jan (JP) Schwieterman," his brother Chad Schwieterman confirmed in a Facebook post.
Chad mentioned that J.P. had recently been diagnosed with an aggressive form of stage 4 cancer. Family and friends described Schwieterman's death as a "shock," as they are now navigating this difficult period with the support of a close-knit community.
Born in Bluffton, Indiana, J.P. Schwieterman was not only an accomplished actor but also a "proud" Eagle Scout who set his eyes on Hollywood soon after his high school graduation.
He initially landed roles in TV shows such as "McKenna," "ER," and "Forever," but it was his role in "Good Burger" opposite "Saturday Night Live" comedian Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell that cemented his place in the hearts of 90s kids everywhere.
Following the success of "Good Burger," Schwieterman appeared in television shows like "Felicity" and other projects, though he took a seven-year hiatus from acting after 2000. His last film credit was in the 2008 indie film "Along the Way." Sadly, he did not reprise his role in the 2023 sequel, "Good Burger 2."
Beyond the silver screen, J.P. Schwieterman was known for his adventurous spirit and artistic talents. "J.P. loved to travel. He has traveled to many countries throughout his life, most recently to Thailand. He was an artist of photography and painting. He studied martial arts and loved playing Dungeons and Dragons," his obituary stated.
Schwieterman is survived by his parents Clara and LeeRoy, two sisters, his brother Chad, and multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins. His memorial service was held on March 4, with his family requesting donations to be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas in lieu of flowers.
The late actor left behind a rich legacy of both professional work and personal passions. "Thank you, everyone, for your support," Chad wrote on Facebook. "We miss JP deeply and appreciate your thoughts and prayers."
