AceShowbiz - The life and career of one of the most iconic athletes in history, Tiger Woods, is set to be captured in a Hollywood biopic. Amazon MGM Studios has secured the film rights to "The Tiger Slam," a biography by Kevin Cook that dives deeply into Woods' meteoric rise and turbulent journey through the world of professional golf.
Higher Ground Productions, the film company founded by former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama, is in talks to produce the film. Reinaldo Marcus Green, who gained acclaim for his biopic "King Richard" about the father of tennis icons Venus Williams and Serena Williams, is eyed to direct the project.
Published in December 2024, "The Tiger Slam" is described as a "gripping, inside-the-ropes account of an astonishing streak of victories that left Woods's rivals scrambling to keep up." Cook, a former senior editor at Sports Illustrated and editor in chief of Golf Magazine, provides insights from many of golf's biggest names, including Woods' caddie, his coach, his opponents, and his idols.
The book details not just the highs of Woods' career, but also the obstacles he faced both on and off the course. These include his father's death, struggles with addiction, and the physical toll a relentless pursuit of excellence took on his body. The comprehensive biography traces his journey from a child prodigy to a global icon, delving into his triumphant comebacks despite ongoing injuries and surgeries.
This film follows in the footsteps of Higher Ground's previous projects such as "Rustin," "Leave the World Behind," and the docuseries "Our Oceans and Court of Gold." The Obamas have a track record of producing impactful, story-driven content, and their involvement certainly adds a layer of prestige to the upcoming biopic.
Tiger Woods, now 49, has recently faced new challenges, including undergoing surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon. He shared on social media, "I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support." This recent setback is yet another chapter in an already storied career.
Unfortunately, Woods also announced the passing of his mother, Kutilda Woods, at the age of 81 earlier this year. Reflecting on her life, he said, "My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable. She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible."
With a remarkable life story and involvement from top-tier talent, the Tiger Woods biopic promises to be a compelling watch. As the project moves forward, fans and moviegoers alike can anticipate an in-depth look at the remarkable highs and profound lows of one of golf's greatest legends.
