AceShowbiz - Jack O'Connell has officially joined the cast of Legendary's latest installment in the MonsterVerse franchise, marking another high-profile role for the talented British actor. O'Connell, who gained international recognition with his lead role in "Unbroken," will be venturing into the world of Titans with this hotly anticipated follow-up to "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire."
The project, directed by Grant Sputore of "I Am Mother" fame, promises to introduce "several new human characters alongside the beloved and iconic Titans Godzilla and Kong as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat."
O'Connell's character is set to be the brother of the lead human role, played by Kaitlyn Dever, known for her stellar performance in "The Last of Us."
Returning to the cast is Dan Stevens, reprising his role as Trapper, the laid-back Titan veterinarian who notably replaced Kong's infected tooth with a metallic one in the previous film.
With a script penned by Dave Callaham, known for his work on "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings," the film will likely continue to blend intense action sequences with intricate character development.
This MonsterVerse film is slated for a March 26, 2027 release, adding another highly awaited date to sci-fi and monster film enthusiasts' calendars. It follows a rich timeline of films that have artfully balanced gigantic creature battles with human-centric stories.
O'Connell is currently gearing up for the release of Ryan Coogler's supernatural horror film "Sinners," set for release on April 18. The movie features an impressive cast including Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, and Delroy Lindo. He plays one of the villains opposite Jordan.
Fans can also look forward to seeing O'Connell in the post-apocalyptic thriller "28 Years Later," directed by Danny Boyle. The film explores the dire remnants of humanity in a world ravaged by a deadly virus. Slated for a June 20 release, it adds another layer to O'Connell's versatile career.
Now, with his entry into the MonsterVerse alongside iconic Titans, Jack O'Connell's diverse acting portfolio only seems to grow stronger, promising thrilling cinematic experiences for audiences everywhere. As anticipation builds, fans eagerly await to see how these epic stories will unfold on the big screen.
