AceShowbiz - Nina Dobrev shared an emotional video on Instagram revealing the impact of the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles and her personal experience of evacuating her home. Unfortunately, this event coincided with her 36th birthday on January 9.
"Hi everyone, it's been such a tragic time in Los Angeles recently," Dobrev began in her video. "I have been absolutely sick to my stomach with all the destruction and devastation that these fires have caused and displaced so many families."
The actress expressed her deep sorrow for those affected by the wildfires, saying, "My heart is broken for all the people affected by these wildfires." As her own home was spared, Dobrev admitted to feeling "survivor's guilt," knowing that many others were not as fortunate.
In the video, Dobrev made a heartfelt request to her followers, urging them to donate to the families in need. She emphasized that financial aid is crucial for helping people rebuild their lives and homes, as many shelters already have more than enough clothes.
"What people really need right now is financial aid to help them get back on their feet and start rebuilding their lives and their homes," she explained.
To facilitate donations, Dobrev directed her followers to a spreadsheet which highlights GoFundMe pages for affected families. "So for my birthday this year I went down that list and I donated to those families and it would be my birthday wish and I would love it if you could do the same," she implored. "Small or big donations that's up to you, whatever is within your means."
Dobrev's appeal is particularly poignant as she highlighted the struggles of many who, in addition to losing all their belongings, have had their insurance companies drop them. "They've lost everything and my heart breaks into a million pieces for them," she shared.
Dobrev's Instagram post also contained several images showcasing the havoc wreaked by the fires and included a special section dedicated to Black families and other historically marginalized groups in the Altadena community who have been hit especially hard.
In her caption, Dobrev wrote, "Thank you for your support always, but especially now. The road to rebuilding and healing for so many families who have lost everything starts now, and it will be a long one… ❤️🩹 #LosAngelesfires."
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed that as of January 16, the death toll had risen to 27, with thousands of residents still under evacuation orders.
In these trying times, Dobrev's efforts shine as a beacon of hope and solidarity, urging us all to contribute in any way we can to help those who have been left devastated by the fires.
