As eagle-eyed audience member shouted, "Watch out!" just as the backdrop began to topple. The quick reflexes of the actresses put their hands up and moved the backdrop out of the way to prevent it from hurting Dobrev, evoking memories of their protective roles as Bonnie Bennett and Caroline Forbes saving Elena Gilbert on the show.

The incident came not long after Dobrev's recovery from a severe e-bike accident in May 2024, where she tore her ACL and meniscus and fractured her shin and knee joint. Her recuperating from her injuries brought her closer to beau Shaun White, leading to their romantic proposal.
Reflecting on the backdrop incident, Dobrev shared her initial confusion, thinking a spider was on her before realizing the true danger. "I thought it was a spider… I was taking my jacket off like ahhh," she confessed to the crowd.
