AceShowbiz - Fans of The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, will have to wait a bit longer for the highly anticipated conclusion to his musical trilogy. The artist has decided to push back the release of his upcoming album, "Hurry Up Tomorrow", from January 24 to January 31.
Additionally, his scheduled concert at Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, originally set for January 25, has been canceled. This decision comes in light of the devasting wildfires currently ravaging Los Angeles County.
The Weeknd shared the news through a social media post on January 13, stating, "Out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County, I am canceling the Rose Bowl concert originally scheduled for January 25th. This city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone impacted during this difficult time."
He further emphasized his commitment to support the recovery of the affected communities, concluding his message with, "With love, Abel."
The ongoing wildfires have claimed at least 24 lives, left 16 people missing, and damaged over 12,000 structures. The flames have spread rapidly due to a combination of dry vegetation, lack of rain, and severe winds.
The Pacific Palisades Fire has burned 23,713 acres as of Monday and is expected to be the costliest in U.S. history, stretching from the Pacific Coast Highway to threatening parts of the San Fernando Valley.
The Rose Bowl Stadium has also been repurposed as an emergency response center for Pasadena Police and Fire departments, further complicating the logistics for the intended concert. "The Rose Bowl needs to be priority for emergency vehicles coming from numerous states to help protect life and property,"Pasadena spokesperson Lisa Derderian noted.
"Hurry Up Tomorrow" marks the last installment in The Weeknd's trilogy, following 2020's "After Hours" and 2022's "Dawn FM". To accompany the album, a film of the same name, starring Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan, will be released on May 16 and directed by Trey Edward Shults.
Additionally, The Weeknd has teased a world tour, which hints at the possibility of another Los Angeles concert later in the year.
In his message to fans, The Weeknd assured that for tickets purchased through Ticketmaster, refunds will be issued automatically. Those who bought tickets from third-party resellers such as StubHub or SeatGeek are advised to contact their point of purchase directly.
As Los Angeles battles these fires, the focus remains on aiding the community's recovery and ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents. The Weeknd's postponement demonstrates a heartfelt acknowledgment of the city's struggles and an unwavering commitment to support its people during these challenging times.
