AceShowbiz - Comedian Whitney Cummings' biting humor left no stone unturned during her appearance on CNN's New Year's Eve Live 2025 special. From roasting 2024 to taking jabs at Hollywood and Disney, Cummings demonstrated her knack for pushing boundaries while keeping viewers laughing.
She made a memorable entrance on the CNN special, immediately targeting co-hosts Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen. "Was that thunder?" she quipped, referring to the rainy night. "Are you sure? I thought it was Kathy Griffin screaming at you from the street? Are you sure? I think she's cursing."
Her joke, aimed at Cooper's former co-host, Kathy Griffin, set the tone for the night. Griffin co-hosted the New Year's Eve show from 2007 until 2017, before being replaced by Cohen following a 2017 controversy involving Donald Trump. Griffin later called out Cohen after the latter cut ties with her.
Back to the Times Square event, Cummings didn't spare anyone, including herself and CNN. Promoting her 2025 comedy tour, she wittily remarked, "I thought being a mom would mean that less people want to come see me. I'm now playing, like 3000-seat theater, which is about the viewership of CNN these days."
She highlighted a series of infamous events and figures from 2024. "This was the year that people were behaving so poorly we started being wistful about murderers," she said. "Remember, this was the year we were like, were the Menendez brothers so bad? Were we too hard on the Menendez brothers?"
She also targeted Luigi Mangione and P. Diddy, "Of course, our heartthrob of the year was the alleged cold-blooded killer named Luigi who is now in the same prison as Diddy which I'm very upset about cause Luigi already has a lower back issue. This was the year nothing made sense, fertility was down, sales of baby oil was up."
Cummings went on to make pointed comments on racism, media, and gender equality in Hollywood. "White supremacy groups reached record highs," she noted. "It got so bad Ariana Grande became white again."
Addressing Hollywood's portrayal of older women, she remarked, "We also started watching older women in movies. Equality or insanity? You tell me." She cited Demi Moore's role in "The Substance" and Pamela Anderson's "The Last Showgirl".
"Demi Moore was in a movie called The Substance showing that Hollywood is ready for a woman in her 50s to star in a movie as long as a hot 28-year-old wears a leotard for most of it," she deadpanned. "Pam Anderson is getting Oscar buzz for a movie she did wearing no makeup. Guys, it's not progress if you call it brave."
The comedian didn't let Disney escape her criticism either. She joked about the "Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia put money into Disney, so just know there won't be any girl characters in the next Cars movie." Even Cohen wasn't safe from her jokes, as she likened his countdown to DC infamous character Joker.
However, Cohen managed to turn the table when he confronted Cummings for turning down Sabrina Carpenter when the singer auditioned for "Roseanne" revival which Cummings produced.
Cummings' comeback was never dull as she responded, "Of course, you're going to bring up this drama." Referring to Carpenter's huge success after the star pivoted into music, the comedienne quipped, "I deserve a percentage of her touring money for not hiring her. Otherwise, she would still be on that show. You're welcome, Sabrina."
Towards the end of her set, Cummings noted, "I can't believe you guys are still letting me go. This is amazing. I love CNN. Please stop me, Andy, because I will just keep going… No censorship on CNN. Love you, guys."
Whitney Cummings' appearance on CNN's New Year's Eve Live was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride through 2024's tumultuous highlights, showcasing her trademark ability to mix humor with harsh truths.
