The tale goes back to the time when Lily, 39, was managed by Elton, 77, a relationship that began around the release of her second album, "It's Not Me, It's You," in 2009.
The professional partnership, which evolved into a close friendship, abruptly ended after a public spat at the 2008 GQ Men of the Year Awards.
"I used to be managed by Elton John. He would call me like once every couple of weeks to check in and say 'hi' and make sure I was okay," Lily recalled. However, when they parted ways, she felt a deep sadness and decided to pour her emotions into a heartfelt letter addressed to the "Rocketman" hitmaker.
In the letter, she expressed her vulnerability, detailing the void left by their separation and her struggles with sobriety. "There was a big Elton shaped hole in my life," Lily confided. Despite the emotional weight of the letter, she never received a response, which led her to harbor anger and resentment towards Elton for years. "I thought it was mean of him actually," she admitted on her podcast.
Years later, while unpacking after moving to America, Lily stumbled upon the unopened letter among her belongings. To her astonishment, she realized that she had never sent her letter. The unsent letter finally ended her long-held grievances against Elton John. "Elton if you're listening, which you're probably not, I love you and I no longer harbor that resentment towards you," she proclaimed with a laugh.
