AceShowbiz - The highly anticipated "Avatar: Fire and Ash", directed and co-written by James Cameron, will continue the saga of the Sully family, focusing on their struggles and emotional journey following the heartbreaking events of "Avatar: The Way of Water". Zoe Saldana, who plays Neytiri, recently provided some insights in an interview with Deadline, hinting at the directions the story might take.
Saldaña emphasized that the Sully family is still mourning the loss of their child, and this grief will play a significant role in the third installment. "The way that we left the Sully family, they're mourning heavily the loss of their child," Saldaña remarked.
"So I do believe that that will carry out a great deal in the third installment of Avatar. Jake and Neytiri are on this journey of acceptance, of accepting who they are and what they must be for each other and how they're going to push forward to keep their family safe."
In addition to the family's emotional journey, "Avatar: Fire and Ash" will introduce fans to a new locale on Pandora and a different group of Na'vi with unique cultural traits, again tied to the elemental theme of their environment. This expansion of the world of Pandora could provide fresh challenges and perspectives, both for the characters and for the audience.
James Cameron has been praised for the visual excellence of the "Avatar" films, but Saldaña highlighted the emotional core of the series, a love story that persists despite numerous challenges.
She said, "I love the fact that in the core of this entire saga is a beautiful love story, and I love that Jim really wrote that for them. But it's not going to be easy. They're not always going to meet eye to eye, and I just hope that they keep each other safe. That's my hope for them"â€
The sequel is also set to feature greater character depth, with deeper internal conflicts within the Sully family, particularly concerning Kiri's mysterious origins. The stakes are high as the characters navigate their grief and ensure their family's safety amid new threats and revelations.
A sneak peek has also revealed that some scenes of "Avatar: Fire and Ash" were filmed during the production of "The Way of Water" to maintain continuity. This meticulous approach promises a seamlessly connected narrative.
Fans won't have to wait as long this time around, with Fire and Ash scheduled for release on December 19, 2025, and subsequent sequels already in the pipeline. For now, they can revisit the magic of the first two films on Disney+.
