"Merry Christmas Eve from me and my fiancée ðŸ˜ðŸ’ðŸŽ," Morgan, 32, captioned her Instagram post, sharing the joyous news with her followers. According to her, the proposal was a complete surprise despite a few suspicious hints along the way.
The Canadian professional basketball player chose a particularly magical setting for this life-changing moment. "James knows how much I love Christmas, especially all the festive lights, so he took me to the Langley Glow Light Festival," Morgan told People. She further added that she had expected the proposal to happen on Christmas Day, making the actual moment a delightful shock.
James had been dealing with a foot injury at the time, which required him to use crutches. Vanessa recalled, "I asked him if he was sure he wanted to walk around on crutches, and he said, 'For you, I'll do it. I know how much you love this.' It seemed a little suspicious, but I didn't think much of it."
It was in the middle of all the lights and people when Karnik pretended to adjust his shoe, then, standing in the radiant glow of festive decorations, he dropped to one knee and proposed with a stunning 4.64-carat oval-shaped engagement ring from Brilliant Earth. The ring features a 14K rose gold band and blue marquise cut diamonds shaped like butterflies.
"When I saw the ring, it was just stunning, and in that magical moment, with the lights all around us, it felt like the best Christmas present ever," Morgan gushed. James shared his excitement for their future, stating, "I couldn't be happier with the person I'm doing it with."
This heartwarming engagement comes after Morgan's previous marriage to Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Michael Kopech, with whom she shares a three-year-old son named River. Morgan and Karnik also recently welcomed their daughter, Kaia, in July.
