AceShowbiz - Snoop Dogg revealed there was the tension that arose between him and Dr. Dre following his acquisition of Death Row Records. In an interview with AP News, Snoop revealed that Dre was initially hesitant about the move.
Snoop purchased Death Row from MNRK Music Group in 2022, marking a significant moment in his career. However, the label's turbulent history, including bankruptcies and ownership changes, raised concerns among those close to Snoop, including Dre.
"Oh, he didn't like it," Snoop said bluntly about Dre's initial reaction. "He was torn up about it... He spoke to it. He didn't like it."
Dre's disapproval seemed to come from a place of concerns, given the financial and reputational risks associated with Death Row. "To them, it looked like, 'Why is he buying a bag of problems when he's already successful?' " Snoop explained.
However, for Snoop, the acquisition had a deeper meaning. "I saw my legacy," he said. "Saw unfinished business that needed to be handled. I wanted to put some life into Death Row... some beautiful music and happy moments to redefine what it stood for."
Over time, Dre's perspective shifted. Snoop shared that his mentor eventually became one of the label's biggest advocates. "He loves it now," Snoop said. "He's down with it. I even got him asking for a Death Row jacket."
Since taking control, Snoop has revived the label by bringing back iconic artists and signing new talent. He and Dre recently released their collaborative album, "Missionary", under the Death Row banner, solidifying the label's resurgence.
