AceShowbiz - Earlier this year, Amanda Seales appeared on Shannon Sharpe's podcast, resulting in a widely criticized interview. Fans accused Sharpe of undermining Seales' experiences. During the interview, Sharpe questioned Seales' autism diagnosis, asking if she had been clinically diagnosed. Seales responded on Instagram, expressing frustration that Sharpe pressured her without "love."
Seales further addressed the interview, refuting those dismissing her negative experience. She emphasized that portions of the interview were cut out, including Sharpe's assertion that she labeled anyone she disagreed with as racist. She also criticized Sharpe's tactics regarding her autism diagnosis.
You didn't see the whole interview," she began on live. "They cut out portions of the interview. Don't tell me what I experienced. How are you gonna tell somebody 'you weren't attacked'? Yes I was."
She continued, "That man sat up there and literally said to me 'What you're saying isn't right.' They cut out when Shannon Sharpe literally said to me, 'It seems like anybody who doesn't agree with you, you say they're racist.' And I literally had to say to him, 'Is there a reason that you are being so hostile with me?' "
Following the interview, Sharpe apologized for coming across as combative. Seales explained that her autism diagnosis does not require a clinical diagnosis at her age. She also stated that Sharpe's questioning was an attempt at "deflection" and "undermining."
In the interview, Seales also addressed her relationship with former collaborator Issa Rae, stating that she felt unsupported on Rae's sets. She expressed a sense of responsibility to protect Rae but no longer feels obligated to do so.
Despite facing criticism, Seales has expressed gratitude for the support she has received from listeners who appreciate her candor and willingness to discuss her autism diagnosis.
