AceShowbiz - Hall of Famer and former NFL wide receiver Randy Moss is taking a significant break from his role as an analyst on ESPN's "Sunday NFL Countdown". The network announced this decision as Moss deals with a "personal health challenge."
Although Moss has not disclosed the specifics of his ailment, he hinted at the seriousness of his condition during the December 1 show, where he sported sunglasses to shield his eyes, which had noticeably turned yellow.
"Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss will step away from Sunday NFL Countdown for an extended time to focus on a personal health challenge," ESPN said in a statement. "He briefly addressed the matter at the start of the show on Dec. 1.
"For nearly a decade, Randy has been an invaluable member of the team, consistently elevating Countdown with his insight and passion. He has ESPN's full support, and we look forward to welcoming him back when he is ready."
Moss, who played 14 memorable seasons in the NFL for teams including the Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans, and San Francisco 49ers, has had an illustrious career.
Regarded as one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history, Moss holds the NFL single-season touchdown reception record of 23 in 2007 and the rookie record of 17 touchdowns in 1998. His career was commemorated with an induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.
The former athlete's departure comes at a time when fans had begun to speculate about his health, especially after noticing the unusual yellowing of his eyes. Addressing these concerns, Moss asked the audience to extend their prayers for him and his family.
"I just ask for all the prayer warriors to put their blessing hands on me and my family through these hard times. People were talking about my eyes last week," Moss said. "I'm battling something, man, and it's something internal. Your boy is going to get through it. I got a great team of doctors and got a great family around me.”
At 47 years old, Moss is making health a priority, reminding his followers, especially men, to stay vigilant about regular medical checkups and bloodwork. As he is stepping back, his presence will undoubtedly be missed on "Sunday NFL Countdown", where he has been a vital component since 2016.
