AceShowbiz - Marc Cherry, the creator of the hit show "Desperate Housewives," has hinted at plans for a spinoff series set in the 1960s. In an interview with People magazine, Cherry expressed his longing to revisit Wisteria Lane, the fictional street that served as the setting for the original show.
"I would probably want to do the idea maybe in an earlier decade," Cherry said. "Because the character I miss writing the most is actually Wisteria Lane. That was the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had, because we owned the whole street."
Cherry acknowledged that a prequel set in the 1960s would render the original characters too young to star in the series. However, he believes there are still compelling stories to tell about Wisteria Lane during that time period.
"There's times when I go, 'You know what? I wonder if I could write Wisteria Lane in like, 1966,' " Cherry said.
While enthusiastic about the potential spinoff, Cherry emphasized the need for a strong artistic reason to reboot the show. "If you do a reboot, you have to have a really good artistic reason to do it," he said. "And at some point, I'll sit down with someone and go, 'Okay, let's talk about if there's a good enough "why" to do it.' "
Cherry also noted that he has gained valuable experience since the original series ended in 2012, which could enhance his approach to a new project.
"I started to go back and go, 'Okay, this was why that worked, or this is my approach to this,' " Cherry said. "I did some things right the first season that were intuitive, more than intellectual. And I feel like if I ever got a chance to do that show again, I'd be better at the job. I learned so much."
