AceShowbiz - Netflix's hit film franchise "Enola Holmes" is set to continue with director Philip Barantini attached to helm the third installment. Sources close to Deadline have revealed that Barantini's pitch impressed executives with its darker and more mature approach, drawing inspiration from the "Prisoner of Azkaban" installment of the "Harry Potter" series.
Millie Bobby Brown, the franchise star, is expected to reprise her role as Enola. The film's producers include Mary Parent, Ali Mendes, Alex Garcia, Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi and Isobel Richards for Brown's production company, PCMA Productions.
The original "Enola Holmes" film debuted on Netflix in 2020 during the pandemic and quickly gained a dedicated fan base. Based on Nancy Springer's book series, it follows Enola as she solves mysteries in the footsteps of her renowned brother, Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill).
Given Brown's established relationship with Netflix and her success on both "Stranger Things" and upcoming films like "The Electric State", the "Enola Holmes" franchise holds high priority for the streamer.
Barantini, who has previously worked with Netflix on the series "Adolescence", has an impressive track record, including the award-nominated feature film "Boiling Point" and the successful BBC series adaptation of the same name.
Plot details for "Enola Holmes 3" remain under wraps, but the darker tone and older target audience are expected to elevate the franchise to a more mature and engaging level.
