AceShowbiz - "The View" co-host Sunny Hostin, aged 56, recently divulged on the "Behind The Table" podcast that she has deleted her X (formerly Twitter) account in the aftermath of Donald Trump's presidential election victory. Hostin, an open Democrat, revealed she made this decision to distance herself from a platform now owned by Elon Musk, a known Trump supporter.
"I think the most patriotic thing I could do right now is just to delete the account," she stated emphatically. Hostin further criticized Musk's ownership, stating, "Elon Musk took it over and I feel like he ruined it. Black Twitter was a thing that I loved and it was sort of replaced… with misogyny and racism."
Hostin's departure from X comes amidst considerable backlash over her outspoken comments. On a recent episode of "The View," she attributed Trump's election victory to "uneducated white women" and Latino men, suggesting cultural resentment, rather than policy, drove the result.
"Why do you think uneducated white women voting against their reproductive health freedoms, and why do you think Latino men voted in favor of someone who is going to deport a majority of his community?" she challenged ABC political news director Rick Klein.
Her unfiltered remarks did not go over well with co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin, who retorted, "I don't think white women like being called uneducated white women." Following the criticism, Hostin revised her terminology to "non-college-educated white women" but the controversy persisted.
Hostin also shared insights into the personal toll of her online presence, noting, "While I don't read the comments, my team does and they were talking about the death threats that I was getting and all of this horrible stuff."
The vitriol from social media users included harsh feedback, such as one user labeling her a "bitter miserable hateful woman" and another calling her "willfully ignorant and biased."
Despite the polarized opinions about her decision, Hostin maintains a firm stance on her disassociation from anything Musk-owned, even saying, "I'm not going to buy a Tesla, I'm not going to buy Tesla stock."
Sunny Hostin's bold actions highlight the contentious and often personal nature of contemporary political discourse, urging us to reflect on the influence of social media platforms and the importance of safeguarding personal values in the digital age.
