AceShowbiz - Grammy-winning musician John Mayer and filmmaker McG have joined forces to acquire Henson Studios, a renowned piece of Hollywood history. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pair have secured a contract to purchase the iconic lot.
The approximately $60 million bid marks a significant turnaround for the property, which was previously being pursued by the controversial Church of Scientology, which owns several other properties in the area.
Prior to Mayer and McG's involvement, the property was reportedly being considered by Fab Factory Studios, a music production company with ties to Scientology. When Fab Factory Studios' hold on the property expired, Mayer stepped in to close the deal, leveraging his existing offices on the premises.
Henson Studios has a rich history dating back to the early 20th century. In 1917, it was the home studio of silent film legend Charlie Chaplin. After Chaplin sold the facility in 1953, it was acquired by A&M Records in 1966 and later became the base of The Jim Henson Company in 2000, serving as the birthplace of iconic Muppet characters.
