AceShowbiz - Mattel has issued a statement after making a rather inappropriate mistake on its new "Wicked" dolls. The doll company apologized after it accidentally attached a link to a porn site on the back of the packages for the Elphaba and Glinda dolls from the upcoming movie.
"Mattel was made aware of a misprint on the packaging of the Mattel Wicked collection dolls, primarily sold in the U.S., which intended to direct consumers to the official WickedMovie.com landing page," said a statement from Mattel. "We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this. Parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is not appropriate for children."
The company added, "Consumers who already have the product are advised to discard the product packaging or obscure the link and may contact Mattel Customer Service for further information."
Instead of directing people to the official website of the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the popular 2003 Broadway musical, the URL in the boxes brings people to a website for Wicked Pictures. According to the site, the company produces "quality parody porn movies" like "Black Widow XXX" and "Captain Marvel XXX: An Axel Braun Parody".
Upon learning of the mishap, fans quickly took to social media to point out the issue. "The official Mattel Wicked dolls link to a porn site on the box," one fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The fan added that Mattel was the only one which made the mistake on the packaging. "LEGO didn't make this mistake! I wonder if @Mattel will have a massive recall," the person wrote in a separate post. "Betty crocker confirmed safe too."
"whoever did this needs to be fired immediately cuz why would they do that knowing that it's mostly kids buying these dolls," someone commented. Another, meanwhile, trolled by writing, "I have to go buy one now."
Starring Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, "Wicked" is set to open in the U.S. theaters on November 22.
