AceShowbiz - Jennifer Lopez is no stranger to life's ups and downs, and she's channeled that real-life experience into her latest role in film, "Unstoppable." Premiering on December 6, Lopez portrays Judy Robles, the mother of NCAA wrestling champion Anthony Robles.
A woman who juggled motherhood with financial instability and an abusive relationship, this role strikes a chord with Lopez, who is currently navigating her own challenging relationships amid her divorce from Ben Affleck.
At a Q&A event following the London screening on November 5, as reported by Hello! Magazine, Lopez shared her insights on the film's themes and its personal relevance. With authenticity, she explained, "I think a lot of women have gone through that, and she [Judy] and I talked a lot." Lopez's aim was to ensure that Judy felt "really safe" while sharing the intimate details of her life.
Lopez, a mother to 16-year-old twins Max and Emme, drew parallels to her own journey of balancing parenthood with life's challenges. "When you talk to Judy's kids, including Anthony, they're like, 'My mom's so positive, she's so great,' " she noted. "There was a whole different story there that she was living, that you hide from your children, you protect your children from that."
"Unstoppable" not only captures Lopez's personal admiration for Judy Robles but also her dedication to authenticity. "I wanted them to see Judy in it," she stressed, "not just play the mom who the kids knew, but to play the woman who raised these children and how she found her own strength."
Despite their ongoing divorce, both Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, have expressed mutual appreciation for each other's professional commitments. Affleck briefly praised Lopez's performance during an interview with Entertainment Tonight, stating, "Jennifer is spectacular." Lopez reciprocated the sentiment, describing the cast and crew as "spectacular and wonderful."
Lopez, who filed for divorce from Affleck in August after two years of marriage, reflected on her personal growth. In an interview for the October issue of Interview magazine, she candidly shared, "I think my whole life I've just been trying to say I'm good enough, until where I am now, when I know. I'm giving myself credit."
Through "Unstoppable," Jennifer Lopez not only pays homage to a remarkable woman but also offers a glimpse into her own evolution. Young audiences can draw strength from her story, seeing how resilience and self-belief can turn life's struggles into spectacular performances.
