AceShowbiz - Rising pop star Chappell Roan attributes her musical transformation to the 2018 Freddie Mercury biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody", particularly Rami Malek's performance as the Queen frontman. In a recent interview at the Grammy Museum, Roan revealed that the film's portrayal of the Live Aid performance resonated deeply with her.

"That scene where they're performing 'Radio Ga Ga' and they're doing that part, [thumping]? That changed my career," said Roan. "It pivoted my path, and I knew I had to do whatever it took to achieve that same level of crowd engagement."

Roan's admiration for Mercury's charisma and audience connection motivated her to create songs that would foster a similar experience during her live performances. "I wanted to feel the same way in a crowd, and I thought, 'How do I do something that can evoke that?' It's such a powerful feeling when everyone is performing the same movement together," she explained.

This inspiration is evident in Roan's setlist staple "HOT TO GO!," which encourages audience participation through a call-and-response format reminiscent of The Village People's "YMCA." Moreover, her song "Femininomenon" incorporates a bridge with a call-and-response structure.

Roan's acclaimed live performances have been a significant factor in the success of her album "The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess." "I've performed live extensively this year, including at numerous festivals and tours," she said. "We've done 83 shows this year, and I believe that's why these songs weren't meant to be relegated to an album."
