AceShowbiz - Colin Farrell, known for his roles in "The Banshees of Inisherin" and "The Batman", ran the Irish Life Dublin Marathon on Sunday, October 30th, in support of his longtime friend, Emma Fogarty. Fogarty, 40, has Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), a rare genetic condition that causes severe blistering and fragility of the skin. The condition, often referred to as "butterfly skin," is extremely painful and affects over half a million people worldwide.
Farrell and Fogarty joined over 22,000 runners in the annual event, with Farrell pushing Fogarty in her wheelchair for the final 2.5 miles of the race. The moment they crossed the finish line together was captured on video, showing Farrell embracing Fogarty as he rested after the ordeal. "Shall we go again?" Farrell can be heard saying.
The Irish actor has been involved in charity work for many years, having founded the Colin Farrell Foundation earlier this year in dedication to his son, who has Angelman Syndrome, a rare neuro-genetic disorder.
Leading up to the marathon, Fogarty and Farrell surpassed their initial goal of raising 400,000 euros for EB research, setting a new goal of 1 million euros. With donations already reaching 679,000 euros (around $733,000), they are now aiming to raise 1 million euros in celebration of Fogarty's 40th birthday, a significant milestone, as many with her form of EB do not live to see this age.
"That run was nothing compared to the pain she is forced to endure every single day, even though she doesn't show it," Farrell said after the race. "It was an honor to see her waiting for me with 4km to go, each of those representing a decade of her life, and to do the final stretch together. I'll never forget it."
Fogarty expressed her gratitude for Farrell's support, saying, "I'm so excited and extremely emotional. As many of you know, the reason I've done this is because I've hit the big 4-0 this year, and I wanted to mark it in a huge way. But, it's you - the public - that's made it even bigger and more special than ever."
