AceShowbiz - On the October 11 episode of "The Graham Norton Show", Miranda Hart, 51, revealed that she was inspired to share her own health journey after watching Selena Gomez's "My Mind & Me" docuseries on Apple TV+.
"When I saw your documentary [about] your illness struggles, I was thinking, 'Do I share?' You know, 'Is this something I should do?' Because it feels quite vulnerable," Hart told Gomez, whose documentary charted her struggles with mental health, chronic illness, and her life with lupus.
Hart's words visibly moved Gomez, who began to cry. She reached out and held Hart's hand, thanking her for her support. "So the fact I'm on this show with you ... To witness somebody in the pain that I was in for different conditions. But we know what a chronic condition is like and it's always rumbling there, and I know what it's like in a very different way," Hart continued.
Hart, who has chronic fatigue due to Lyme disease, acknowledged that their experiences differed as Gomez's chronic illness was associated with being a pop star at arenas. However, she empathized with the challenges of living with a chronic condition.
Gomez said she was touched by Hart's words and felt inspired by her vulnerability. "It's amazing and I think she's incredible," Hart added.
Gomez's "My Mind & Me" documentary, released in 2022, received critical acclaim for its candid exploration of her mental health journey. The documentary followed Gomez for six years, showcasing her struggles with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and lupus.
Hart's latest book, "I Haven't Been Entirely Honest with You," explores her own health struggles and her journey from illness to recovery. The book includes insights into her recent marriage and her experiences with Lyme disease.
